All to be filed under a Homeresque D’uh….
Just when I thought I couldn’t find a new or interesting problem. When the Post Office increased the postage in May, they also changed how postage is calculated for standard first class mail, especially “Large Envelops”. The mailings we have done in the past we used the mid-sized envelop which until May 14th as qualified as standard letter, after May 14th they are no Large Envelops. The difference in price between standard envelop and large envelop is about $.65 for what we mailed on approximately May 17th. There is no question that the first mailings didn’t have enough postage on them. There is a postal sub-station near where I work that uses none-postal employees, who determined the postage due. Since this is a contracted sub-station the mail gets two extra sets of hands on it. If that is true what happened to the Mailing? The USPS does not have an official policy on postage-due items, and it is up to the individual who discovered the shortage to determine the best course of action. I had to verify that twice since I couldn’t believe they do not have such a policy. It appears that after a few went through the system someone caught the shortage and redirected the rest of the mailing, to where is the question, after several phone calls the most likely answer is the Twin Cities Mail Recovery Center.
